Kathmandu: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has directed banks and financial institutions to utilize their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds to support those affected by the Gen-G movement that took place on Bhadra 23 and 24.
The central bank issued this decision through the “Guidelines on Corporate Social Responsibility of Banks and Financial Institutions, 2081 (Second Amendment)”, which mandates that banks, financial institutions, and infrastructure banks must allocate one percent of their net profit toward CSR activities.
According to the revised guidelines, CSR funds can be used to cover medical expenses of poor and disadvantaged citizens injured during the Gen-G movement and treated in government hospitals. The payment will be made directly to the concerned hospitals to avoid duplication.
Additionally, banks may assist families of those martyred during the protests by funding skill-based or income-generating training programs. Such support must be channeled through training institutions recognized by the Government of Nepal or other approved organizations.
The move aims to ensure that CSR funds are directed toward social rehabilitation and empowerment of individuals and families impacted by recent national unrest.
